Amazon's highly anticipated God of War TV series, inspired by the iconic video game, is set to span two seasons before it even premieres. This news comes directly from the show's new showrunner, Ronald D. Moore, who stepped into the role after the departure of Rafe Judkins and executive producers Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus.
In a recent interview with Katee Sackhoff, a familiar face from the Battlestar Galactica series, Moore shared insights into his latest project. "Right now, I'm working on an adaptation of, there's a video game called God of War, a big title in the gaming world that Amazon has ordered two seasons of and they've asked me to come in," Moore revealed. "So I'm literally in the writer's room, and working on that. That's my new thing."

Despite not being a seasoned gamer himself, Moore confessed to enjoying classic arcade games like Defender, Asteroids, and Centipede. However, he humorously admitted that modern gaming controllers pose a challenge for him. "‘Press R1.’ Which one's R1? Oh, I'm dead," Moore quipped, illustrating his struggle with the intricacies of video game controls.
Moore's role in the God of War series extends beyond showrunner; he's also on board as a writer and executive producer. With a rich background in television, having worked on acclaimed shows like Star Trek: The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, and the 2000s Battlestar Galactica, Moore brings a wealth of experience to the project.
While the former team members have moved on, Sony's Cory Barlog remains as an executive producer, ensuring continuity and fidelity to the source material. The series will draw from the 2018 God of War game, promising a faithful adaptation of Kratos and Atreus's journey.
Amazon's track record of quickly renewing video game adaptations like the Fallout TV show and Secret Level, following their successful launches, suggests a positive outlook for the God of War series. Fans eagerly await more details as the show progresses towards its anticipated release.
