The "Digital Revolution of Devarattam" app is a project dedicated to preserving and promoting the rich heritage of Devarattam, a traditional folk dance of Tamil Nadu. This app is lovingly dedicated to Kalaimamani Mr. M. Kumararaman, a retired teacher; Kalaimamani Mr. M. Kannan Kumar; and Kalaimamani Mr. K. Nelli Mani Kandhan from Zamin Kodangipatti, who have been awarded the Kalaimanis and Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar award for their contributions to Devarattam. My sincere gratitude also extends to my Guru, Mr. E. Rajakamulu, and the esteemed legends of Devarattam.
This app aims to disseminate information about Devarattam and its accomplished awardees. It provides detailed descriptions of the dance form and its practitioners. Devarattam, performed by the Rajakambalathu Nayakkar community, both historically and in the present day, comprises a set of intricate steps. While the basic routine consists of 32 steps, variations can extend the sequence to 72 steps, all built upon the fundamental movements. Devarattam dancers gracefully perform, holding kerchiefs in each hand, adorned with salangai (ankle bells) on their legs, and accompanied by the rhythmic sounds of the Deva Thunthumi, a traditional musical instrument.
