Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O: Steam Debut This Winter
Virtua Fighter's First Appearance on Steam
SEGA is bringing the acclaimed Virtua Fighter series to Steam for the very first time with Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. This latest remaster builds upon the 18-year legacy of Virtua Fighter 5, marking the fifth major iteration of the game. While a precise release date remains undisclosed, SEGA confirms a winter launch.
SEGA boasts Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O as the definitive remaster of this classic 3D fighting game. Key features include rollback netcode for smooth online play, stunning 4K graphics with updated high-resolution textures, and a boosted 60fps framerate for incredibly fluid gameplay.
Classic modes like Rank Match, Arcade, Training, and Versus return, complemented by two exciting additions: custom online tournaments and leagues (supporting up to 16 players), and a Spectator Mode for observing matches and learning new strategies.
The YouTube trailer has generated overwhelmingly positive feedback, with many long-time fans expressing their enthusiasm for another iteration. While excitement is high, some players continue to eagerly anticipate the release of Virtua Fighter 6.
Initially Mistaken for Virtua Fighter 6
Earlier this month, an interview with VGC sparked speculation about the development of Virtua Fighter 6. SEGA's global head of transmedia, Justin Scarpone, mentioned several legacy titles in development, including another Virtua Fighter game. However, the November 22nd Steam announcement of Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O, with its enhanced visuals, new modes, and rollback netcode, clarified the situation.
A Classic Fighting Game Returns
Initially launched on SEGA Lindbergh arcade cabinets in July 2006, Virtua Fighter 5 later made its way to PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2007. The game's storyline centers around the Fifth World Fighting Tournament, with players selecting from 17 (initially) and up to 19 playable characters in later versions, including R.E.V.O.
Following its initial release, Virtua Fighter 5 has seen several updates and remasters, expanding its reach and improving the core gameplay:
⚫︎ Virtua Fighter 5 R (2008)
⚫︎ Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown (2010)
⚫︎ Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown (2021)
⚫︎ Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O (2024)
Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O, with its modernized features and updated visuals, promises to reignite the passion of long-time fans and attract new players to the world of Virtua Fighter.
